For their new family home near Dax in the department of Les Landes, south west France, the brief was to reorganise the layout of the single storey property to provide a further bedroom and a study area and to bring the house up to date for modern family living. New plumbing and electrical layouts were required and a complete restructure of the interior spaces. Initially the house consisted of two bedrooms and one bathroom, it has now three bedrooms, two bathrooms plus a larger lounge, resited to face the sunny and private rear garden and larger modern kitchen with direct access to the loungeroom.

A currently ongoing project, works on site commenced in 2007 and will eventually incorporate landscaping to the sizeable gardens and exterior facades of the home along with a garden room extension to provide a study and dining room.

The entrance hall was not ideal, long and narrow and ending with a direct view on the WC. In bringing forward the facing wall and laying new stone flooring the hallway is visually widened and provided space behind to create a new en-suite shower room to a reconfigured master bedroom.

The previous bathroom was tiled to the ceiing, and was without WC or comfort. Removing the cupboards pushing into the space from the adjacent bedroom the proportions of the bathroom were corrected, the bidet was replaced by a WC, with new sanitaryware and decorations, a new comfortable and modern family bathroom was created.

New openings were made from the previous kitchen through to the then garage and utility room, along with moving the internal walls to create a larger space, a new kitchen has been created with free-flow 2 way access from the new lounge area. Both rooms have direct access to the rear garden and patio.

The previous kitchen was again fully tiled, a cold and unwelcoming space. This room is now the new lounge, larger and more comfortable with new flooring creating continuity from the hallway. the double french doors will eventually open into an extension creating a garden / dining room.
